Wood Brothers - 1st & 2nd Helly Hansen 2024 NOODS Regatta

The 34th Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series was held on February 15th – 18th at St. Petersburg Yacht Club, Florida.   The race is the largest sailing regatta in North America with 250 national teams racing 18 classes. The series is traditionally known as the NOOD Regatta (National Offshore One Design)  and includes both Classic and Foiling A-Cats.
This year’s event challenged sailors with strong winds, big seas, and fast races. Congratulations to Larry and Todd Woods on finishing 1st and 2nd in the Foiling A-Class Division.  This was Larry's second year in a row finishing in Top Spot.  Race results can be found on the following link:   https://yachtscoring.com/event_results_cumulative.cfm?eID=16265
Check out Larry having fun on the Saturday Highlight Video at approximately 26:32 into the video clip.

BBCC at the Hobie Cat 14 North American

The 2023 Hobie 14 North American championships were hosted by Hobie Fleet 106 and the Rehoboth Bay Sailing Association. 22 Hobie 14 sailors lined up from all around North America to compete including 2 from BBCC (Andy and Nick).

The first days were warm with light to moderate winds with a light incoming tidal current. The current was light and only affected the light wind in morning races. Nine races were completed over the first two days.

On the third day, the warm pleasant weather we had been enjoying for a week came to an end. A strong cold front crossed the area bringing very strong winds. Sailors were on the water for what was forecasted to be a breezy day but with sailable winds. Partway through the first race of the day the cold front truly arrived with a different plan. The winds quickly increased to the upper 20 knots with gusts well in the 30’s and racing had to be abandoned. Before making it back to shore there was plenty of drama on the water with boats capsizing. Rehoboth Bay is quite shallow, and this ended with quite a lineup at the hose stations to clean the mud of masts and sails.

The goals were set and Andy came in the top 10 while Nicolas finished 3rd and the first Canadian making him the Canadian Hobie 14 National Champion.
